The tech industry is hot and only getting hotter. As the digital landscape keeps shifting, some IT jobs are being rendered obsolete – while others are growing at a rapid pace.

These are the fastest-growing tech jobs with the highest demand in the market right now. Are you ready to grab the chance and join the IT force? Let’s get to it…

AI/Machine Learning Engineer

The responsibilities of an AI/ML engineer include designing and developing machine learning and deep learning systems, as well as running machine learning tests and experiments, and implementing ML algorithms. The ultimate goal of this job is to build and shape efficient self-learning applications.

Database Administrator

Also known as DBAs, database administrators have a variety of duties and tasks such as the evaluation of database software; maintaining the integrity and performance of company databases; guaranteeing that data is stored securely; informing users of any changes in the databases and training them to use the systems; and ensuring the security of the company data.

Software Developer

The brain behind a computer program is a software developer. Some create simpler things like mobile apps while others create critical systems for industries like aerospace, defence, and even space! Fullstack developers are also becoming more common, meaning that it’s a good idea to have experience in frontend and backend development as well. When it comes to coding languages, Java keeps the crown as the most sought-after language for a software developer role. However, others like C++ are making their way to the stage as they gain in popularity in areas such as autonomous driving. Additionally, experience in low-code platforms like OutSystems is also a plus when it comes to landing this role.

Frontend Developer

Frontend developers need a combination of graphic design skills and technical computer skills that allow them to create designs on webpages. Apart from looking nice, websites need to be functional and secure. It’s the frontend developer’s responsibility to build and develop such sites. Frontend developers shape visitors’ experiences on websites through the creation of page layouts, website styling, and page features. Apart from developing the website, they are also responsible for maintaining it – they do this by updating old elements and fixing any bugs the client finds. Knowledge in Flutter, React and Angular were the most sought-after qualities in those applying for this role in 2019, and it seems to be an upward trend from here…

Data Scientist

Professionals who collect, organise and analyse data are in high demand. They use their analytical, statistical, and programming skills to collect, analyse and interpret large datasets and often use this information to develop data-driven solutions for difficult business challenges. Data scientists have a wide range of technical competencies, including statistics and ML, coding languages, databases, and reporting technologies.

Computer Systems Analyst

They investigate the company’s computer systems and procedures, then design or revamp them to make the organisation operate more efficiently. They incorporate new technology into current systems after doing cost-benefit analyses to determine whether it’s financially sound and if it will serve the system well.

Systems Administrator

A systems administrator has a lot on their shoulders. They are often in charge of installing, administering and troubleshooting organisations’ security solutions. Common responsibilities of a systems administrator include defending systems against unauthorised access, monitoring network traffic for unusual activity, configure and support security tools such as firewalls, anti-virus, patch management systems, and conduct security audits. Security isn’t the only thing system administrators do, though – they’re also responsible for ensuring the upkeeping, configuration and reliable operation of computer systems.

Mobile App Developer

They create new products or adapt existing ones for use on phones and tablets – say, mobile devices. Creative companies across industries now recognise mobile as a powerful content distribution channel.

DevOps Engineer

They assimilate development and operations teams to improve the collaboration process. These engineers work with IT developers to make coordination easier and better among operations, development, and testing functions by automating the integration and deployment processes. A DevOps engineer must have a firm knowledge of several coding languages and must be familiar with basic Linux concepts as well. They’re also expected to work with a variety of open-source tools and technologies to manage source code, among others.

Scrum Master and Product Owner

With the increase adoption of agile methodologies, the roles of Scrum Master and Product Owner are also on the rise in the IT industry. Without mixing things up, let’s start with scrum masters and what they do. The scrum master takes on the administrative, coaching and leadership roles that make scrum development possible; ensures that the scrum process doesn’t stop team progress; and ultimately acts as a buffer between the team and the process overhead, so that each team member focuses on delivering the software on time. On the other hand, the product owner is a project’s key stakeholder. Part of their responsibilities is to have a vision of what they want to build and convey that vision to the scrum team. This is crucial to successfully start any agile software development project and the product owner does this through the product backlog, which is a prioritised features list for the product.

The technology industry is ever-changing and what’s in demand today could well be yesterday’s news by tomorrow. What can you do about that? Adapt. The IT sector is all about adapting to change and being flexible enough to fit the needs of the industry.
