The Space Defence Tech Meet Up will explore how space is becoming a critical defence domain.

Critical Software, in collaboration with SAAB and Instituto Superior Técnico, has announced the Space Defence Tech Meet Up - an open event featuring ESA astronaut and Saab Innovation Catalyst, Christer Fuglesang. The event will take place on 2 June at 3 p.m. at the Técnico Innovation Centre in Lisbon.

The event will include a moderated round-table discussion featuring representatives from the space, defence, technology, and academic sectors. Alongside Fuglesang, the line-up includes Colonel Pedro Costa from the Portuguese Air Force, Joana Mendonça from Instituto Superior Técnico, and Diogo Amorim from Critical Software.

The discussion will address how space has evolved from a primarily scientific and exploratory domain into a crucial arena for defence, with a focus on emerging technologies and the development of sovereign capabilities.

Rodrigo Pascoal, Business Development Director at Critical Software, said the event presents "a unique opportunity for the academic community and industry players to gain insights from leading experts and engage in thought-provoking discussions on the evolution of space and its impact on defence."

The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required. It will also be live-streamed on Critical Software’s LinkedIn page, allowing broader participation beyond the venue.
