B Positive! Critical Software Achieves B Corp Certification

July 7, 2021

We’re delighted to announce our certification as a B Corporation, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose and not just profit.

Critical Software is a B Corp

Certified B Corporations are for-profit companies using their power to build a more inclusive and sustainable world. Achieving certification is the result of meeting demanding sustainability and impact standards across our entire business in five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

We were certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement. The certification process is rigorous and highly selective. Companies are required to reach a benchmark score of 80 points or more through clear evidence of and commitment to socially and environmentally-responsible practices across their business – from reducing energy consumption and waste production through to employee wellbeing, diversity and corporate transparency. We achieved a score of 93.2, with our commitment to purpose beyond profit embedded in our governance processes.

As the first IT company founded in Portugal to achieve the certification, we now join over 4,000 B Corps globally, including renowned international brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Danone and WeTransfer.

Gonçalo Quadros, Chairman of Critical Software, commented on our certification: “A global shift is underway, with purpose-driven companies looking to address society’s greatest challenges more actively and to contribute towards building a more transparent, sustainable economy. We are proud to achieve B Corp certification and to join this powerful global movement which uses business as a force for good. This is a major milestone and reflects our ambition to help make the world a better and safer place. From recent initiatives like our neurodiversity talent programme to our commitment to become carbon negative, we plan to build on our B Corp status to help engineer positive, sustainable change: for our communities and the planet at large.”

Luis Amado, Executive Director of B Lab Portugal, added: “It’s always a great pleasure to welcome a new B Corp to the community. For me, personally, it is very special having Critical Software join the B Corp community, having watched their inception and followed their growth and innovation closely - nationally and internationally.”

“B Corp is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how the world of business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good. I know that Critical Software is a fantastic addition to the community and that they will contribute significantly to its growth and promotion, helping to show the world that companies can not only be the best in the world, but be the best for the world.”
