New Year, New You? 5 Tips for a Successful 2022
Here are 5 tips that will make your 2022 a guaranteed success.
2022 is just around the corner.
Feeling daunted about all the challenges that lay ahead? Don’t. Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of top tips to help you grow in your personal and professional life, helping you become the person you’ve always dreamed of being.
It’s never too late, as the saying goes. So what better way to kickstart your New Year than by:
1) Set new goals
Goal setting provides direction and ensures our focus remains on what’s important. Even if you haven’t done this in the past, give it a try and think of where you want to be this time next year. If you want to be in a different position, start planning how you're going to make the change. You'll probably find that your motivation will increase as a result!
Oh, and avoid long-term goals when you can. Manageable short-term goals are easier to achieve and will keep your motivation levels running high.
2) List all the new skills you want to learn
A career that isn’t invested in training is often less fulfilling than those that do. Remember this: knowledge is power and, more often than not, it’s outside of your control. That’s why you need to take the initiative if you really want to get ahead!
Talking to your manager to determine the ways you can improve upon your current skills by getting involved in new projects can be the first step towards success. So give it a try!
3) Dare to change
Don’t be afraid if you feel it is time to take on something new. Sometimes, motivation levels can drop when we do something for a while. Trust in your abilities and embrace a new challenge.
At Critical, we take our Titans’ career plans seriously and we believe they all deserve the opportunity to grow and achieve their full potential. There’s no time like the present, after all. That’s why we’ve created the Employee Empowerment Programme to help our people manage their careers and aspirations better, putting them on the path to success.
4) Be flexible
Ask yourself this: are you able to quickly adapt to new circumstances as and when they arise?
If the answer is yes, then you’re on the right track. Try your best to be open to new ideas and suggest new ways of doing things.
Next time you’re slogging through that process you’ve been through a thousand times, remember this quote from Apple founder Steve Jobs: “Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity – not a threat.”
Be more flexible when receiving suggestions from your colleagues and your managers. It might seem like a chore, but you’ll thank us later!
5) Value your feedback
At Critical, all of our Titans receive regular feedback about their work. What’s more, we offer our people the choice of having a mentor, which can be really beneficial for those just starting out in their careers. Not only do they offer the tools you need to get ahead in your career, but they can be a much-needed confidence boost when things are looking confusing or challenging.
Additionally, formal feedback at intervals throughout the year is an excellent way of positioning our career and preparing new goals or identifying and working on those that need more attention.
All of this can look like a bed of roses. But tips to succeeding in your professional life are often easier said than done. Hence the importance of keeping your personal life in check. Make sure you maintain good mental health, establish a sensible work-life balance, and – arguably most important of all – keep yourself grounded. Know who you are, what you’re capable of and set ambitious but realistic expectations of yourself. Start small and watch how you develop over time. From small acorns great oaks grow – and that New You will be with you in no time…
We’re proud to be an award-winning place to work and our range of benefits are designed to help look after all our employees. Take a closer look at them here.
