Critical Software Joins the AI Deployment Gap Initiative as a Founding Signatory

Critical Software is one of the founding companies behind the AI Deployment Gap Initiative, launched today by Lynx — a vendor-neutral coalition set on defining the engineering principles for deploying trusted, governable, and certifiable AI in mission-critical systems.

AI models are improving at a rapid pace. But organizations deploying them in aerospace, defense, robotics, industrial automation, transportation, and critical infrastructure face a challenge of a different nature: making sure those models operate predictably, securely, and sustainably under real-world constraints. Systems designed for the lab don't necessarily behave the same way in operation. This gap is what this initiative sets out to close.

Convened by Lynx, the group of founding participants also includes Edera, Metavonics, OmniTrust, PACE, RunSafe Security, and TASKING, alongside Critical Software. Membership is open to any organization across the AI ecosystem that shares the same commitment.

Four gaps to solve

The manifesto that kicks off the initiative, "Closing the AI Deployment Gap: A Manifesto for Deployable AI," lays out the principles of safe AI deployment and identifies four gaps the industry must address:

  • Execution Gap. AI must execute deterministically and predictably.

  • Integration Gap. AI must coexist with heterogeneous and mission-critical systems.

  • Governance Gap. AI decisions must be observable, traceable, and accountable.

  • Lifecycle Gap. AI must be maintainable, certifiable, and sustainable throughout long operational lifecycles.

A common engineering foundation

To close these gaps, participants are endorsing a shared set of engineering principles for deployable AI: Determinism by Design, Observability by Default, Integration Across the Stack, Runtime Governance, Security by Design, Lifecycle-Ready Engineering, Deployment as a First-Class Concern, and Ecosystem Collaboration.

Trust must be engineered, not assumed

"In safety-critical and mission-critical environments, trust must be engineered, not assumed. Dependable AI is not optional," said João Galego, head of AI at Critical Software. "Every decision must be predictable, verifiable, and accountable, and every part of the ecosystem must be held to that same standard. That is why Critical Software is joining Lynx's AI Deployment Gap manifesto as a founding signatory, because closing that gap takes more than one company."

For Critical Software, the initiative extends decades of work engineering systems across different industries where failure has consequences — domains where traceability, evidence, and certification are requirements, not options.

What the initiative will produce

Beyond endorsing the manifesto, founding participants will collaborate on educational resources for the broader industry: deployment best practices, technical guidance, deployment-readiness frameworks, reference architectures, joint whitepapers, deployment blueprints, operational case studies, and lessons learned from real deployments. The goal is to help organizations move faster from AI innovation to trusted operational capability.

Open to the whole ecosystem

The AI Deployment Gap Initiative is open to organizations across the AI ecosystem — silicon providers, platform and operating system vendors, AI framework developers, cybersecurity companies, system integrators, OEMs, and end users — who share a commitment to advancing deployable AI.
